In recent yars, Chinese Alunminun industry has made very rapid progress and kept continuous growth. However, there are still several unneglectable problems exsisting.
The incomplete aluminum recycling system
The method and technology of aluminum recycling are still in low levels and recycling companies are small in scale and output, counting less than 20% of the original aluminum output, while the western developed country, whose ratios are usually higher than 40%, walking on the path of the recycling economy.
Aluminum casting technology and equipment level are low
The aluminum casting companies are small and scattering, their technology is elementary and product lines are limited, unable to meet the demand of the rapid growth of the car industry and domestic economy.
Aluminum industry has low condensity
Although there are many aluminum companies and most of them has small scale and low condensity, except for the CAC and several large enterprises. After decades of marcoeconomic controls and fierce competitions, the amount of aluminum companies has reduced from over 2000 to about 1400, including 780 extruding companies and 650 plate and foiling companies. Companies with large and medium scale count for less than 20% and small ones count for over 80%, with the average output of each company of 25,000 tons annually, and maximum output of 800,000 tons annually by the Southwest Aluminum. And the situation in western developed countries is averagely 100,000 tons per year and 1.7 million tons maximum.
Limited product lines and low quality
The system of the deformed aluminum and aluminum alloy hasn’t been completed and independent. And sophisticated and special use products, such as the heavy expanding plates, thin sheets for cans making, mirror plates, foils for high voltage capacitance, plates for car bodies, and high class wheels and pistons, cannot be massively produced; low level products are excessively supplied, while high tech and high added value product are short, unable to meet the demand of the rapid development of national military defense and domestic economy, depending mostly on importing.
Weak technology innovation and independent research ability
Generally speaking, the comprehensive technology level of the industry is low, and so is the basic research and technology innovation ability, and therefore, its general productivity is low and cost is high, making low profitability, although some of the companies absorb technique and import advanced machines from abroad, and do some further researches based on some foreign technological achievements. Besides, the low efficiency causes high energy consumption and heavy contaminations, which do a lot of damage to domestic economy. On the contrary, foreign aluminum industry is marching forward to increase efficiency, lower cost and consumptions, shorten procedures, diversify product lines, and to be more environmental friendly. Somehow, we are unable to do independent research and innovations, and lack of related organizations and talents, therefore, we are even unable to apply exsisting technologies from abroad to our manufactures, surpressing the modernization of our industry.
Inappropriate product structure
Currently, the product structure of the aluminum industry is not balanced, for example, the ratio between architectural profiles and industrial profiles is low, and ratio between original aluminum and recycling aluminum is high, and ratio between general molding and casting is high etc, which has a rather considerable distance with the global advanced level, and is unable to meet the growing demands of the domestic economy and should be readjusted.
The governmental macroeconomic control hasn’t played its own part completely
The government hasn’t guided the market adequately. Actually, we can say that, the government can play more of its part in properly allocating resource; guiding ecological manufactures; and industry structure readjustment and reallocation; funding supports; investment controls; system and policy innovations; price controls; and legitimate competition etc. all these problems impede the rapid development of the domestic aluminum industry.
